Turns out I was wrong - horribly wrong in fact, as Tekken: Blood Vengeance is set to burst onto our screens in 'summer 2011'. I can't deny that I've spent a bit of time watching the CGI launch trailers for Tekken games in the past, but I didn't think they'd ever make it past the small screen. The film is being directed by Youichi Mouri - the in-house director behind the cinematic featured in the Tekken Series. One of the details that got me excited is that the screenwriter Dai Sato, the writer behind the classic anime Cowboy Bebop, will be working on the project. “Tekken: Blood Vengeance” will be a full feature length title (meaning a 90 minute runtime) and will center on the events of Tekken 5 and 6. Could this upcoming film be one of the few examples where a movie based off of a video game franchise turns out well?
Possibly one of the biggest news items announced at the show was a direct to dvd movie centered around the Tekken universe. This week Namco Bandai held their press only event where they announced many new games and game tie-ins.
